In the beginning...

Long before we discussed marriage, we shared a dream of traveling abroad.

Traveling was something we always wanted to do, but never found the right time or money to do so. We think this is the prime time in our lives to get away and see the world. Without life's many distractions, we will grow strong as husband and wife at an amazing rate. We can't wait to indulge in spending every single day together around the world, and everywhere in between. We plan to return home with empty pockets, but rich with unforgettable memories, and more in love than ever.

Although you are not obligated to give a wedding gift, if we are honored with your generosity, may we respectfully request a donation to our travels. If you feel so inclined, one option, is to deposit securely using a credit/debit card through this blog. Click on the donate button below and follow the instructions. Make sure to fill in all your information accurately so we may know who to thank! Many blessings to all of you!

We are thrilled you are here visiting our new blog page and to follow along with us during our journey! As we begin our new life with each other and leave on our travels, our goal is that this web page may serve as a convenient place to communicate with all of you via images, videos, and words.

Don't be shy! Drop us a line !

Looking forward to sharing our new life together with all of you!

Stay tuned!

Love,
Nancy and Ryan

PERU Part 1

LIMA-

Ok, so getting on the internet and posting to the blog is easier said than done when traveling. Since our last post its been a few weeks and a lot has been seen and done. We will start where we left off with Nancy's birthday. We stayed in Central Lima until we could not stand the smog and noise and chaos of the big city. We stayed about 10 minutes from the Playas De Armas there in Lima. We have learned over the past few weeks, staying in different cities, this is the busiest and most active, and expensive, part of a city/town here in Peru.  It's basically the main square of each city, where in ancient times, this would be the spot the people would take refuge if the city was under attack. It would be where all the arms and supplies would be gathered. There is usually old churches and government buildings to see.

Well, during our time in Lima near the Playas De Armas, it sounded as if the city was being attacked, and everyone was gathering to go to war. But really, people just partied and shot off fireworks until the sun came up. The weekends were the craziest. It was fun to be in the middle of it all initially, but after a week, our eyes were bloodshot and our sinuses were clogged shut from all the smog. We could barely sleep through the nightly shenanigans on the street. And we would survive through two big protests, one right in front of our hotel entrance.  To top it all off,  on our last day there, Nancy was the first victim to food poisoning. It destroyed her stomach for the next 3 days and included a painful and high fever. The worst of it was endured while on a 9 hour bus ride from Lima to Trujillo. We think its from a bad tomato in a dish that we ate called, Lomo Saltado. Stir fried strips of beef, onions, and tomatoes. Usually served with rice and papas fritas (french fries). Ryan loves this dish, but always picks out the tomatoes. So luckily he didn't get sick. Nancy was not so lucky...

Even though we were glad to move on after our time in Central Lima, there were some good times had. Some of the good highlights include, our visit to the El Circuito Magico Del Agua. A big park with a dozen or so huge illuminated fountains, live music played around the park, and is all topped off at the end of the night with a huge laser show.  All for a little over 1 US dollar! Also we enjoyed getting to go through the Lima, Peru LDS temple. Ryan also enjoyed getting to watch Lord of The Rings in spanish in our hotel room. ha!

Here's a few pictures from our time in Central Lima:

Our first meal in Peru (total cost: about 8 US dollars!)

Happy Nancy (before getting food poisoning in Lima.ha)

" I hate poisonous tomatoes!" Nancy says.

El Circuito Magico Del Agua

Ryan loved getting "barreled" in this fountain...

Nancy loved dancing to the live music and eating two ice-cream cones at once!

The finale! A laser beam show!

El Senor de los Milagros
(A festival where Peruvians celebrate a religious feast and honor their oldest city )

That big thing behind Nancy, we learned weighed about 2 tons.
The priests carried it on their shoulder through the entire downtown of Lima

The view out our third room in Lima.

Same room as above. There were a lot of creepy placed mirrors in this room. ha.

Nancy made a new friend at the bus station on our way out of Lima.
This guy was just cruising around inside and hopped onto our laps.
He clawed Nancy good when Ryan scared him off.

Stay tuned. More photos and some videos coming soon!
